Makenzie Maughn, named MRU 2013

Please come to the coronation ceremony of the 2013 Miss Rodeo Utah Makenzie Maughan! Miss Maughan, the daughter of Rod and Mindy Maughan of Hooper, will receive the golden tiara of Miss Rodeo Utah at a 6-8 p.m. event Tuesday, Feb. 5 at the Timbermine Restaurant, 1701 Park Blvd. Chenae Shiner, Miss Rodeo America and Miss Rodeo Utah 2012, will be there to help coronate the first recipient of the Utah crown under our new Lady-in-Waiting Program.

For those unfamiliar with the Lady-in-Waiting programs, it simply means that there’s a young woman in the wings, getting ready for her time to reign. It gives her extra time to travel and prepare for the national stage.

In our case, Miss Rodeo Utah 2013 Makenzie Maughan — who is being appointed because she won first runner-up in the 2012 Utah pageant — will appear at Utah rodeos and celebrations throughout the rest of this year.

Our current Miss Rodeo Utah, Chenae Shiner, last month won the Miss Rodeo America crown and is traveling the country in that role.

In December, Makenzie, as Miss Rodeo Utah 2013, will compete at the Miss Rodeo America pageant as the representative from Utah.

The Miss Rodeo Utah Pageant will held as usual in July, in conjunction with the Ogden Pioneer Days rodeo and celebration. Miss Rodeo Utah 2014 will be announced July 24, 2013 at Ogden Pioneer Stadium. She will begin her reign in January 2014.
